EILEEN WAGNER
OIL PAINTINGS EILEEN WAGNER has broken upon the Boston art scene like a wave steadily gaining momentum over the past decade and winning the acclaim of The Boston Globe which called her work "provocative... meditations on color, texture and medium." Wagner's medium is oil on canvas and her forte is glazing which she does to great effect. Laying down layer upon translucent layer of color through which she scratches, the painter produces abstract images evocative of the real world but which, in reality, create a world of their own. Smoke, fire, water and landscape provide inspiration for this highly talented artist who turns those elements into abstractions which have a suggestive and brooding sensuality. The richness of color and luminosity of the surface enthrall the viewer, drawing one into another world which yet recalls elements of one's own experience. In her most recent work, Wagner has applied her signature style to the medium of monotype, creating a series of subtle and haunting abstract landscapes.
