LISBETH FIRMIN
OIL PAINTINGS

LISBETH FIRMIN is a contemporary American impressionist whose imagery employs the urban landscape while incorporating the human figure. It has been said of her urban landscapes that “they are inspired by the energy of the modern city and the sometimes alienated places that people occupy in it.” Firmin's paintings are more concerned with capturing the spirit and character of the light in a specific moment and place than depicting an exact translation of reality. Using broad brushstrokes and a sweeping style, the artist manages to convey her visceral reaction to her subject's vitality. Firmin's works are as fresh as they are masterful, pulsating with energy. She is the featured artist in the 2008 summer issue of the Gettysburg Review and the cover artist for the spring issue of Epoch, Cornell University’s literary magazine. Recent awards include a 2007 New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship for printmaking (Lily Auchincloss Fellow) and a 2007 Community Arts Funding Grant, New York State Council on the Arts, along with a Merit Award from the 2007 Roberson Museum Regional. Firmin has also been awarded a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant.
