PETER ARVIDSON
OIL PAINTINGS

PETER ARVIDSON built his reputation with his unique style of naif representation combined with jewel-like colors and imagery reminiscent of the works of Paul Klee. Arvidson's works have always displayed a highly developed sense of color as well as great sophistication in the color harmonies he creates. Over the years his style has evolved from a devotion to childlike pictorial representations to a completely non-objective approach concentrating strictly on color. In a style reminiscent of Pointilism, Avidson divides his canvases into subtle grids made up of rectilinear daubs of pure color. It is the utter sophistication with which the artists combines his colors that turns his square paintings ranging from 12 to 48 inches into glowing gems.
